Moonlight Skiing at Sugarbush!

Moonlight skiing at SugarbushImagine yourself moonlight skiing through deep powder that sparkles under the full moon’s glow. Well, hang on because you can do more than just imagine it – you can live it with Sugarbush’s Guided Moonlight Skinning and Snowshoe Tours!

Sugarbush resort’s guided moonlight skiing tours are a popular – and rare! – opportunity to enjoy an evening of skinning or snowshoeing on Vermont’s third highest peak, followed by a hearty dinner, drinks, and fun! This is a great opportunity to discover skinning or snowshoeing and connect with nature in Vermont’s Mad River Valley.

If you’re not familiar with skinning, it’s a great workout and way of hiking uphill in skis that has seen a recent burst of popularity across the country. Skinning involves attaching synthetic skins to the bottoms of your skis, which give you enough traction to then work uphill. Many enthusiasts of the sport say it is the most efficient way to hike uphill in snow.

Your tour begins at Mt. Ellen Base Lodge, where you’ll suit up to either snowshoe or skin up to Glen House for fresh-baked, stone oven pizza, drink specials, hot cocoa and opportunities to relax or even enjoy a game of cornhole. After the meal skinners are treated to a moonlight ski back down Mt. Ellen to the base lodge.

While you don’t need your own equipment to participate – Sugarbush offers a full rental service – you are required to be able to carry all the gear you do use both up and down Mt. Ellen. That and all who skin up the mountain must then ski down – but who would argue? That’s the best part!

Sugarbush’s guided moonlight skinning and snowshoeing treks are only offered once a month throughout the ski season, and only when conditions permit. As of this writing, four dates for Sugarbush’s guided moonlight skinning and snowshoeing treks remain open for 2016: Jan 23, Feb 20, Mar 5 and Mar 19. Be sure to get your tickets now before they sell out. All tours begin at 4:30pm with guided snowshoe hikes lasting up to two and-a-half hours and skinning tours up to 3.
