Ski Mad River Valley For That Perfect Vermont Winter Vacation

Come Ski Mad River Valley VermontThe leaves are turning, the nights growing longer, and the air cooler. That can mean only one thing – it’s almost time to come ski Mad River Valley!

If Vermont is a skiers paradise (and it is) then the Mad River Valley is its epicenter. People come from all over to ski Mad River Valley – and no wonder!

There is a great variety of both downhill and cross-country skiing opportunities here and not just skiing, either. Snowboarding, snowshoeing, ice-skating, even dog sledding and Rocket sledding.

Alpine skiers come here for both Mad River Glen and Sugarbush.

Sugarbush is home to the most diverse and celebrated downhill skiing terrain in the East. Many of the world’s top skiers and riders began their careers here. Despite this, it maintains a reputation as both one of the least crowded and the friendliest top ski resorts in the north east. Best of all, for guests of West Hill House B&B, Sugarbush is our next-door neighbor. Their award-wining slopes are literally just minutes from our front door. Plus they offer a door-to-door ski shuttle service for even more convenience.

Mad River Glen is another popular downhill skiing destination, and a very unique one, at that. Mad River Glen is operated as a large co-op; the skiers own the resort. Mad River Glen’s slopes hearken back to the older days with very little, if any, grooming. This allows for a more natural experience and decidedly more challenge on the steeper runs. They even have a historic, single-chair lift … and a snowboarding ban.

Nordic fans love to ski Mad River Valley, too.

For one thing, the Catamount Trail runs through the Mad River Valley. Catamount Trail is the country’s longest, back-country, ski trail, spanning the length of Vermont at more than 300 miles long. In fact, section 18 of the Catamount trail runs right behind West Hill House B&B!

Ole’s Cross Country Ski Center is right nearby, too, with 30 miles of moderately rolling, groomed trails. Ole’s offers some of the area’s best cross country skiing for those looking to get out in nature. The trails cut through both silent, deep woods and open spaces with stunning, panoramic views.

Blueberry Lake Cross-Country Ski Center is another excellent cross-country ski area near our Vermont B&B. Blueberry Lake offers daily-groomed trails engineered and graded for the best skiing experience. At Blueberry Lake you can ski, skate, or snowshoe – and you can even ski at night!

Ski Mad River Valley

As I said above, when it comes to winter sports, Vermont’s Mad River Valley has it all. In this post, we’ve only touched on a few of the more popular ski opportunities close to our Warren area B&B. There are many more opportunities for the winter sports enthusiast.
