  1. Tour the Vermont State Building: This golden-domed building offers a glimpse into the state’s rich history and stunning Greek Revival architecture. Visitors can explore the beautifully restored chambers, view historical exhibits, and learn about Vermont’s legislative process. Open weekdays.
  2. Vermont Historical Society Museum: Browse the engaging exhibits, artifacts, and interactive displays at this museum in Montpelier. Located in the heart of the state capital, the museum offers visitors a comprehensive look at Vermont’s cultural heritage and historical milestones. Open Tuesday though Saturday.
  3. Explore Hubbard Park: A visit to this little natural gem is one of the best things to do in Montpelier. Spanning over 194 acres, this park features a network of trails perfect for hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing. A notable highlight is the stone observation tower, which provides a panoramic view of the city and surrounding landscape. 
  4. Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks: Visitors can enjoy a tour of the maple syrup production process, learn about the history of sugaring, and sample various delicious maple products at Morse Farm. The farm also offers a charming country store, scenic trails, and whimsical carved folk art.
  5. Browsing at Bear Pond Books: This locally-owned bookshop is a must-visit in Montpelier! You’ll find new and used books and great gifts, and they even host literary events. 
  6. A Tasting at Caledonia Spirits: Head to this distillery and craft cocktail bar for drinks & tastings. The home of Barr Hill Gin. You can purchase tickets for tours of the distillery (note these are offered only on some days and at specific times). 
  7. Make Farm-to-Table Dinner Reservations: There are so many lovely restaurants and cafes to discover in this charming small town. One of the best things to do in Montpelier is make a reservation at Sarducci’s Restaurant holding the top spot on TripAdvisor for dinner out in Montpelier. 
  8. Visit the Montpelier Farmers Market: Every Saturday in the shadow of the State Buiiding, vendors, farmers, and artisans set up a beautiful open air market selling flowers, produce, and more. The Capital City Market will be a highlight of your trip.
