A recent article entitled ‘Gen Z Is Bringing Back the Old-Fashioned Inn’ certainly re-enforces what we, at West Hill House B&B, have long known. Not only about Gen Z, but about our guests of all ages.
Relax and Reset

Relax and reset are words that often accompany the word hospitality. Webster’s Dictionary helps us understand the foundation of what an ‘old fashioned inn’ is with the definition of old-fashioned; “formed or styled according to fashions, ideas or customs of a past times.” And in defining hospitality as, “the act, practice, or quality of receiving or entertaining strangers or guests in a friendly way. ”
The art of welcoming guests and visitors, be they known or unknown, has strong roots in Greek and Roman traditions. Interestingly the study of hospitality has received much attention in the modern era through academia.
“Old-fashioned Inn” embodies hospitality based on human interaction in an intentional and sincere manner.
One of Our Goals
At West Hill House B&B one of our goals is to help guests relax and reset from the moment they decide to come visit. Easy booking whether you book on-line or over the phone is step one. Life is Fast Paced
We know that for many people these days, life runs at a frantic pace. City life appears to be in constant motion. Work, with its technology, seems to demand 24-hour attention. Every-day family responsibilities and self care need attention too. All these can make anyone’s head spin.
Time to Relax and Reset
Having time to get away from it all, for even a short time, allows both body and mind to relax and reset. That’s what we are here to help with!
While some guests at West Hill House B&B come for special local events such as a wedding or family reunion, many come simply for R&R. To slow down life if only for a short while.
Many guests are find relaxation not just swinging in the hammock or sitting in a comfortable chair, but rather in having new experiences.

You may find relaxation learning about the area, undertaking new activities, meeting new people, and connecting with folks on a genuine level, something that does not often happen in the cookie cutter world of chain hotels and fast paced life.
If you want to immerse yourself in local history, we’ll share information about the area, local eateries, artisan shops, activities, and experiences. You’ll get directions and learn the names of the makers and shop owners, whom you will likely meet when you visit their business.
While relaxing around our family style breakfast table, you may find less than “six degrees of separation” between you and other guests. In conversing with each other you may learn you have mutual interests or experiences. Conversations amongst guests who are genuinely interested in sharing thoughts and insights about the world around them. It’s not planned, it just happens!
You may arrive knowing no-one however it may not be long before you find yourself relaxing in that comfortable living room chair or out roasting marshmallows at the fire pit while visiting with other guests.
On Your Own or With Others

There is time to interact with other guests if that is your way to relax and reset. However, you may choose to be on your own to reconnect with your partner or, if you’ve come on your own, to do some personal reflection and relaxation. Exploring the beauty of nature offers the opportunity to breath in the fresh air and it may even lower your blood pressure! Hiking, walking, skiing, mountain biking, or embarking on one of our local self-drive tours gives you lots of time to relax.
One of our return guests wrote us, “… when we are at West Hill House, it is just the two of us again. We have time to remember what brought us together initially.”
