Don't Miss These Gorgeous Waterfalls in Vermont in 2023

With Spring just around the corner, the snow will begin to melt any moment, and signs of new beginnings will appear. This is also one of the best times to start planning a tour of waterfalls in Vermont near our B&B. The rushing, icy waters will be at their most impressive as the countryside turns from white to green and the spring showers elevate the water levels.

There’s something magical about viewing these cascading beauties; the white noise creates a calm space, the soft spray of the mist, and the hypnotizing rush of water gliding over rocks, ledges, and into deep gorges. This is a fantastic time to plan a scenic drive through the Mad River Valley, and you’ll see why the Green Mountains got their name. You can view some of these waterfalls in Vermont from the comfort of your car, while others include an easy walk to the best viewpoints and scenic outlooks.

While you’ll find plenty of charming places to stay in the Mad River Valley, there’s no match for the level of comfort and hospitality you’ll experience at our Bed and Breakfast in Vermont. Tour these Beautiful Waterfalls in Vermont

As a guest at our Bed and Breakfast in Vermont, you’ll be in the ideal location to tour the nearby waterfalls in Vermont worth a stop. Join us for a wonderful three-course breakfast with fruit, a baked treat, and an entree—always paired with piping hot coffee to get your day off on the right foot!

You’ll be set and ready to head out on your scenic drive to these nearby waterfalls in Vermont. Each is unique, from shaded rushing waters in emerald green forests to bright, big cascades in charming small towns in the Mad River Valley.

Here’s a loop that visits five waterfalls in Vermont from our Warren, VT:

  1. Warren Falls: There’s a path that leads to this beautiful series of cascading pools of Warren Falls. You’ll see swimmers and sunbathers on hot, sunny days, and even bold cliff jumpers! The parking lot is often full, and however tempting it may be, do not park along the road if the parking area is closed, you’ll likely be towed. We also suggest skipping this stop if it’s muddy or icy—it becomes treacherous to navigate.
  2. Moss Glen Falls: It’s only a 15-minute drive from our Bed and Breakfast in Vermont to one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Vermont, while it can be easily seen from the roadside, there’s a short easy hike to a boardwalk for the best views. This one is a pretty 35-foot horsetail-style falls where gentle streams of water spread across a slightly angled boulder. In the spring, you might be lucky enough to catch sight of a 50-foot falls, known as Little Moss Glen Falls.
  3. Texas Falls: Next up on the waterfalls in Vermont itinerary is located in the Green Mountain National Forest. The Texas Falls recreation area is a great place to get out and stretch your legs on the 1.2-mile loop trail that meanders through the forest along Texas Brook toward the Texas Falls Picnic Area. Might be the perfect spot to stop for a snack by the falls! The average hike time is about one hour and does have a 70-foot elevation gain, so you might break a sweat.
  4. Middlebury Waterfall: This 18-foot block-style falls on Otter Creek is located in the center of town, tumbling over a steep drop just below the Route 125 bridge in downtown Middlebury, though it looks like it’s dammed, it’s not! There’s a footbridge located just below the falls you shouldn’t miss. Stop at the pretty Riverfront Park for a distant view of one of the unique urban waterfalls in Vermont. The charming small town of Middlebury is a lovely stop for more than just the waterfall, check out the boutiques, grab lunch, and even tour the beautiful and historic campus of Middlebury College.
  5. Bartlett Falls: This is one of the waterfalls in Vermont more known for its 40-foot wide, 120-foot long sparkling pool below. The block style is only 15 feet high, but the cascading waters are the perfect speed for a leisurely day at the swimming hole. This destination is very popular and sometimes sees more than 500 visitors in one day!

There are a few other noteworthy stops on your way back to our Bed and Breakfast in Vermont, if you head for Lincoln Gap, you’ll want to stop off at Lincoln Peak Winery. They start their season in the spring and lucky visitors will get to taste unique varietals including Marquette and Farnsworth grapes. You’ll also be near Bristol, VT, another quintessential Vermont hamlet with an amazing bakery and boutiques. Plan on taking the Appalachian Gap route home, one of the most scenic and winding roads with stunning sweeping views.
