Where to go Dog Sledding in Vermont in Winter

The list of unique winter activities in our cozy, snowy state is long, but perhaps one of the most unforgettable is dog sledding in Vermont with October Siberians, offering Vermont sled dog rides and adventures. This family-owned business has been operating out of Little River State Park in Waterbury, VT, since 2005, offering visitors and locals alike a special connection to nature and animals. You’ll have the opportunity for not just a ride but to learn to drive your own dog teams if you so choose.

Dog sledding in Vermont is just one of the memorable things to do in winter—you’ll love exploring the snowy backcountry trails on snowshoes or cross-country skis. For those interested in downhill skiing, there are plenty of world-class ski resorts in the Green Mountains of the Mad River Valley. Vermont is also the perfect winter destination for those who prefer to spend chilly days inside—curled up by a fire, reading great books, playing games, and relaxing with their loved ones.

That’s where our Vermont Bed and Breakfast comes in! West Hill House B&B is nestled in the idyllic village of Warren, where you can relax and refresh. During the winter months, our Inn is perfectly cozy with wood-burning fireplaces, beautifully appointed shared spaces, and a nine-acre property fit for exploring. With only nine elegant guest rooms, you’ll love the intimate scale of our Inn and have the care and attention of our seasoned innkeepers with the best insider secrets and homemade treats. Dog Sledding in Vermont & More Memorable Things to do this Winter

When people ask about your vacations, telling them you were dog sledding in Vermont is always greeted with awe! There’s something that stands out about getting to glide through snowy, wooded trails with paw power from these strong and intelligent animals. While there are a few companies offering this adventure, our favorite and closest to our Vermont Bed and Breakfast are the experts at October Siberians.

Here are a few things to know about dog sledding in Vermont with October Siberians:

  1.  October Siberians owner/musher Rob Farley has been raising and training Siberian huskies for nearly 30 years. He had his first husky in 1994, and they’re now training and caring for the fourth generation of these amazing dogs! He loves sharing his passion with visitors; you’ll see his care clearly on an adventure with the crew.
  2. Tours occur at Little River State Park in Waterbury (about 30 miles from us – allow about 40 minutes to drive). The most popular adventure is the two-hour excursion through the Mount Mansfield State Forest and along the Waterbury Reservoir. The scenery is breathtaking and full of history along the four to six-mile trek.
  3. These excursions are super popular in the winter, so booking your adventure well in advance is absolutely essential. Book a tour to go dog sledding in Vermont with October Siberians online, or allow your innkeepers at West Hill House Bed and Breakfast in Vermont to make the arrangements. We’re happy to provide full concierge service for our guests! You can add our Dog Sledding package with the utmost ease.
  4. While dog sledding in Vermont is an exceptional addition to your winter trip, if you’re here in the off-season, you could visit the kennel and meet the dogs. Or head out on one of their dog cart tours in the fall while the pups work on their skills.

More Unique Things to do in Vermont this Winter:

While dog sledding in Vermont is more than special, there are many more things to do this winter as the beautiful white snow blankets the wooded areas. Here are some of our favorite cold-weather activities:

  1. Snowshoe or Sledding Tours with Clearwater Sports: One of our favorite local touring groups, the guides at Clearwater Sports are the experts in snowshoeing, sledding, and back-country skiing excursions. One of the most unforgettable adventures is the headlamp, full moon tour where you trek in the beautiful woods in the light of the stars.
  2. Skiing at Sugarbush or Mad River Glen: There are two fantastic ski resorts within a quick drive of our Vermont Bed and Breakfast. Sugarbush is less than five minutes, and we offer a complimentary shuttle to our guests in the winter months. Mad River Glen is the last skier-owned cooperative in the country and provides a glimpse into the past for fantastic skiing opportunities.
  3. Cross-Country Skiing at Olé’s and Blueberry Lake: Our B&B is in the ideal location for Nordic ski fans; not only can you access a great segment of the Long Trail from our property, but the groomed trails at Olé’s and Blueberry Lake are also exceptional for gliding along the snow.
