Warren Falls
Let’s kick off our adventure from our cozy bed and breakfast in Warren! Head down West Hill Road and take a right onto Route 100. After about 2.5 miles (or 3.5 km), you’ll find a parking area on your right that leads to the beautiful Warren Falls – a fantastic spot with lovely cascading pools. Just a quick heads-up: it is a very popular spot – it’s best to go right after breakfast or just before dinner. If you find the parking area full, please don’t park on the road; it’s unsafe and you could get towed. Or if the conditions are muddy or icy, it’s best to hold off on visiting and come back another time.
Granville Gulf & Moss Glen Falls
After visiting Warren Falls, it’s just a quick five-mile (8 km) trip down Route 100 through the beautiful Granville Notch and the lovely Granville Gulf watershed. Once you’ve traveled just over a mile past Granville Notch, you’ll discover a parking area for Moss Glen Falls, one of the most stunning Vermont waterfalls. Take a moment to enjoy the breathtaking cascade and stay on the boardwalk. (Then Boardwalk has been closed recently, however it is expected to be repaired and reopened for the summer of 2025.)
Texas Falls
Continue south on Route 100 for 7 miles (11 km) through Granville to Hancock. Turn right onto Route 125 and follow it for 3 miles (5 km). Then, turn right onto Texas Falls Road to enter Green Mountain National Forest and reach Texas Falls. It’s a great lunch or snack spot, with picnic tables above the falls. Enjoy the views from the bridge and paths.
Middlebury Waterfall
Continue along Route 125 for another 13 miles (21 km), turning right onto Route 125N and 7N on our way to Middlebury; it’s located in the center of town, tumbling over a sheer drop just below the Route 125 bridge. Take the time to explore this charming small town with shops, cafes, and more.
- For a scenic return to West Hill House B&B, head north out of Middlebury on Route 125N and 7N for about 3 miles (5 km), then turn right onto River Road where you can stop for a tasting at Lincoln Peak Winery. After 5 miles (8 km), River Road merges onto Route 116,
- Continue left on Route 116 for two more miles (3 km), then turn right onto Route 17/Route 116 towards Bristol, a charming Vermont town worth a stop, especially for the fresh coffee and treats at Bristol Bakery.
- From here, the most direct and scenic route home is via Lincoln Gap Road, just north of Bristol. There are numerous waterfalls and swimming holes in the river alongside the road between the turn off and the little town of Lincoln. Continue over the Lincoln Gap – the highest paved road in Vermont, and look for West Hill Road on your left a couple of miles (3 km) from the base of the hill.
- If you’re not quite ready to call it a day, the Appalachian Gap is a stunning detour. Continue straight ahead when leaving Bristol for another mile or so (2 km) then follow Route 17 on your right. After crossing a plateau you will come to a beautiful ascent then descent over the Appalachian Gap on a road filled with hairpin bends. You will then head past the Mad River Glen Ski area and then watch for German Flats Road on the right, which leads past Mt. Ellen Ski to the “T” intersection at Sugarbush Access Road. A right turn here heads towards Sugarbush’s Lincoln Peak, where you’ll take a left onto Inferno Road. After a mile (1.6 km), a final turn onto West Hill Road brings you back to our cozy B&B.
