Getting outdoors and experiencing the natural beauty of Vermont is one of the best parts of summer. Of the many incredible activities waiting for you in the Mad River Valley, one of our favorites is kayaking. This is especially true when you take a kayaking tour with our friends at Clearwater Sports. Getting out on the water is not only a great way to cool off, but it’s a great way to enjoy the sights as well.

Kayaking Tours in the Mad River Valley
The best part about partnering with Clearwater Sports for your kayaking adventure in the Mad River Valley is the ease of planning. All of you have to do is tell us you want to go, and we’ll help get you there. From arranging for the kayak tours and equipment to making sure you have transportation, we’ll take care of everything for you. Just be sure to give us at least a week’s notice.
Clearwater Sports offers a wonderful guided kayaking tour in the Mad River Valley. Depending on water conditions, the kayak tour will either be on the Mad River or the nearby Winooski River that the Mad River flows into. Both rivers are smooth, slow-flowing, and easy to navigate, with plenty of scenery to enjoy along the way. Guided tours take place daily, leaving at 10:30 am and returning at approximately 3:30 pm.
If you’d rather skip the guided kayaking tour and go out on the rivers on your own, that’s possible, too. You can either bring your own equipment (which can be safely stored in our Handsome Red Barn) or rent whatever you need from Clearwater Sports. Beyond kayaks, they also offer canoes, tubes, and paddleboard rentals – everything you need for a fun day on the water! They’ll even drop you off for a fun day of tubing and pick you up 2 hours later! This really is the way to go when it comes to enjoying the water in the Mad River Valley. Other great places to get out on the water are the nearby Blueberry Lake or, slightly further away, the Waterbury Reservoir.
Kick Back & Relax at our Vermont Bed and Breakfast
After a fun day on the water, how about unwinding with a cold beer at one of our local breweries or cideries? There are a few in nearby Waitsfield, including Cousins Brewing & Collaborative Brewing and Lawson’s Finest Liquids. Or, of course, you can also come back to us for drinks at the Inn, too. We offer wine by the bottle as well as by the glass and a selection of Vermont beers. We also have champagnes, both French and domestic. In addition, we have our unique Quaich Single Malt Scotch bar.
There are several places in which to relax around the Inn, too, including a relaxing hammock, our beautiful front porch, the canopied garden terrace, or the airy gazebo – not to mention the interior commons space. In the morning, gear up for your next adventure with a delicious multi-course breakfast made fresh each day. You’ll start with fruit juice, homemade breads or muffins, and a specially prepared fruit dish, followed by a tantalizing hot entrée that changes daily. And, of course, Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and homemade treats are always available.
