The Best Things to Do in Vermont this Winter

If you’re dreaming of a white Christmas, there’s always a good possibility in our charming village of Warren! Our winter wonderland is such a lovely place to explore with a blanket of freshly fallen snow, and there are so many things to do in Vermont related to winter activities. Whether you’re into bundling up and hitting the snowshoe trails, racing down the slopes at Sugarbush Ski Resort, or just watching the snowflakes from a cozy, warm room next to the fire, our bed and breakfast in Vermont is the right place to do all of the above.

The Mad River Valley in central Vermont comes to life at the first sign of snow! While other areas of the country slow down at the sight of a flurry, it’s the opposite in New England. The skis and boards are waxed, the winter gear is out of storage, and the air has a vibrant edge. If you’ve yet to visit Vermont in the winter, it should be on your bucket list, and there’s still plenty of time to start planning your winter getaway now, as our snowy season can last well into May.

As we see it, most of the best things to do in Vermont in the wintertime include fun activities in the snow. It’s the perfect place for Nordic and Alpine skiing, snowshoe excursions, dog sledding, and ice skating. When you’re not outside, you’ll be in the lap of luxury as a guest at our bed and breakfast in Vermont. Our guest rooms are beautifully appointed with seating areas, gas fireplaces, and comfortable beds. You’ll enjoy the picturesque views of our stunning nine-acre property from the windows. Get your lodging on the books today!

White Christmas: Things to Do in Vermont this Winter

On a snowy getaway to Vermont, the world is your oyster! As long as you have a warm winter coat, gloves, and a hat, that is. Those who thrive on outdoor adventures will be right at home, and with our bed and breakfast in Vermont as your homebase, you’ll have the perfect place to refresh after the rush. There are so many fantastic things to do in Vermont, and we can’t wait to share them with you.

Here are our favorite things to do in Vermont this winter:

  1. Skiing at Sugarbush Resort: Known for having one of the most diverse and celebrated terrain in the East, Sugarbush Ski Resort is only five minutes from our Vermont Bed and Breakfast—we even offer a ski shuttle that takes you directly from our door to the slopes. Skiing here is by far one of the most popular things to do in Vermont this winter!
  2. Classic Ski Runs at Mad River Glen: This Vermont ski resort retains the feeling of classic ski spots of the past. It’s an outdoor adventure in a pristine, natural setting. It is also home to the historic—and now restored—single-chair lift. Head to Mad River Glen and check out one of the last ski cooperatives in the country.
  3. Cross-Country Ski Trails: Lucky for cross-country skiers, Vermont is one of the best places for this peaceful winter sport. As a guest at our Vermont Bed and Breakfast, you’ll be steps away from an 11-mile segment of the iconic Catamount Trail. Plus, a quick drive to the well-groomed trails at Blueberry Lake and Ole’s Cross Country Ski Center
  4. Snowshoeing in the Area: Strap on your snowshoes and explore our nine-acre property! The majority of the best hikes in our area are also fantastic for snowshoeing. Ask your innkeepers for the best tips!
  5. Winter Tours with Clearwater Sports: Our favorite tour group in the area, Clearwater Sports, offers a fantastic menu of winter activities to explore. These guides are the experts when it comes to taking you out snowshoeing, sledding, or back-country skiing adventures.
  6. Tour the Historic Covered Bridges: Taking a scenic drive to see the historic covered bridges in Vermont has its perks in every season and is always one of the quintessential things to do in Vermont. These wooden structures are even more idyllic when covered in snow and icicles.
  7. Day Trip to Montpelier: While you’re out on your scenic drive, you may want to pop up to Montpelier, our state’s capital, and a petite city worth exploring. During the holidays, the town is decked out in festive decor, and you’ll find fantastic shopping options, cafes, restaurants, and parks.
  8. Book a Massage: One of the best things to do in Vermont this winter is add a touch of pampering to your trip! Let us arrange a massage for you to work on those sore ski muscles or a treatment focused on relaxation. Check out our add-on packages

Cozy Winter Lodging at our Bed and Breakfast in Vermont

One of the best things to do in Vermont this winter is to stay at West Hill House B&B! Located in the quaint small town of Warren, VT, on a beautiful backroad surrounded by sweeping forests, our cozy inn is an oasis for relaxation and calm. You’ll be in an excellent location to head out and explore, knowing all the while that you have fantastic lodging accommodations awaiting your return.

All of our guest rooms are unique and beautifully appointed; the Garden Room, pictured above, is one of the favorite options for its L-shape layout with a cozy seating area by the gas “wood-fire” place, built-in bookshelves with great vacation reads, and a comfortable bed tucked away in the corner. The en suite bath has a lovely tub and a separate double shower – also a steam shower, big enough for two.

Our kitchen comes to life in the mornings with quiet murmurs and delicate aromas as a multi-course breakfast is prepared. We take time and care with the meals we feed our guests, using tried and true family recipes with seasonal and local ingredients. Innkeeper Susan even keeps the goodies coming throughout the day with homemade cookies. It’s a lovely touch to set your time apart at our Vermont Bed and Breakfast.
